Thank you for citing me, Musafirbek. I do think it is a very important issue that is still being largely ignored by the international community (a couple of articles here and there don't really lead to much needed publicity). I think you are absolutely right in pointing out the need for joint efforts in relations to the past cotton industry fair. Unfortunately, the fair is more of a business PR event than a human rights conference and it is unlikely that anything would change any time soon.

[...] Musafirbek writes about the use of child labor in Uzbekistan, especially when children pick cotton for 8-10 hours a day. The government says they are doing it ‘by their own will’. Cancel this reply [...]

@MohammedAli, this is a very nice awareness about the problem, MohannedAli! and a saying ‘do we need human rights with an empty stomach’ is very apllicable to this case. but we should realize that by saying ourselves this words we also can’t solve the problem.

what we need is to spread the word and make people around the world understand that when they wear clothes made of cotton they are, probably, made of cotton picked by Uzbek youngsters without any respect. Uzbek government should, at least, pay enough, since they have a good profit of the exported cotton.

we always say it’s better to see once than hear many times. i wish you could go and see the situation yourself. i believe that after the trip you won’t say that it’s enough to close your eyes on the problem and think about poorness only.

I already know that these children are being paid $2 or $3 per day, for their 8 or ten hours sweating. but what would you say if these children are obliged to work under those ctuel conditions? Who will help their families to have bread on their tables? It is clear that children rights are being violated in cotton fields, but it should be taken to account that these people are poor, these children are hungry...
