The Chinese company CNC will start the electrification of Kyrgyzstan railroads, informs Delo Nomer. This company has experience in implementing such projects, and in particular, in other countries of the Central Asia, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

This one hundred million dollars project will be completed in five years. Electrification will substantially increase the velocity of trains and will decrease the pollution to the environment. Also, using electricity instead of diesel oil will save 5-6 million dollars each year.

Now trains from Kyrgyzstan can be recognized for its black color of smoke. The country, which is very rich with hydro energetic resources, still uses diesel locomotives and diesel oil, which is imported. One can ask why such project was not implemented long time ago? Though better late than never. I think that Kyrgyzstan should be investing more money in upgrading and building new electricity infrastructure, for example, in heating systems of urban areas. In future, Kyrgyzstan can think of using electric cars, which are already being used in pilot projects in some countries of Western Europe.
