min-wage_83081t-150x1501Minimum wage, as we know, is the guaranteed minimum cost of labor. In Kazakhstan, this equals 13 717 tenge; however, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection is planning to change the payment structure and increase the figure by 2015.

As Labor Minister Gulshara Abdykalikova explained, “Given upcoming shifts in the cost of living, we will be changing the structure of minimum wage, which will lead to its increase by 2015.”

Additionally, the ministry will consider switching to a definition of the minimum cost of living based on median income, as it is measured in most European countries.

“Increases in the minimum cost of living will be accompanied by corresponding changes in the government’s social standards, including minimum wage, minimum pensions and welfare payments, as well as a threshold level of social aid and support.”
