I never knew I was reading the same blogger as Jewlicious.

It is a really interesting find. I'm extrapolating from other little bits I've read but could Turkmenistan swing from the relatively secular land of Turkmenbashi to a Wahabi like islamist state in just one generation?

Think about the youth that are starting out in a country with little economic future, little intact culture, beyond vague memories of a religion. With just a handfull of missionaries the young population could quickly become radicalized. Then the goverment would either turn it into a generation of martyrs or appease the sheikhs.

That's a lot of speculation, but a very real possibility.

Anyone else think otherwise?

Vicki,

Would be interesting to know where origin is for the sympathy to the Israeli narrative and the creation of culture and political power structures about it - to the point that it has become the only single community-wide endeavor - comes from in American-Jewish culture/society.
