Abbos Atoev - new Uzbek champion
Culture and History, Uzbekistan2 Comments
Now, I will not be mistaken if I state that boxing is the most developed sport in Uzbekistan. My arguments would be world champion Rufat Riskiev, olympic champion Muhammadkadyr Abduallev, WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev, and now Abbos Atoev.
Uzbekistan’s boxing team recently returned from 11 days of completion AIBA World Boxing Championships Chicago 2007 having in its balance one gold won by light heavyweight Abbos Atoev.

The way to the championship was not that easy. After winning four games, Abbos Atoev met with Russian boxer Artur Beterbiev in the finals. Atoev defeated Beterbiev in four rounds (20:17) gaining championship in light heavyweight (81 kg) division of the tournament. Uzreport reports that along with securing his place in final games of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Abbos Atoev became the next 81 kg light heavyweight boxer to win all five games of the competition in a row.
Jahon News reports that on the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan of November 8, 2007 the member of the Uzbekistan boxing national team Abbos Atoev has been awarded the Order of “El-yurt hurmati (‘Respect of the nation’) and a brand new Nexia produced in Uzbekistan . And in the linne with the presidential decree, Abbos Atoev’s coash – the boxing coach at the Olympics Reserve Sporting School of the Bukhara Province Olim Mukhamedov has been awarded the honorary rank of “Honored coach of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Abbos Atoev was born in a small village Kulhatib of Vobkent region in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. As he is the only son, his family worried very much about Abbos when he began going for boxing. Now, his family, as well as the whole Uzbek nation, can be proud of him. Abbos Atoev is just 21. With Uzbekistan paying very much attention to sports, especially boxing, we can assume that Abbos’s career as a boxer is just beginning and he has enough time to show us the best of Uzbek boxing.
