Bust of Chingiz Aitmatov erected in Ankara

President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev attended the ceremony of the bust opening.

Opening ceremony of the bust of the Kyrgyz national writer Chingiz Aitmatov was held in the city of Ankara (Turkey) on June 4, 2014. During his working visit to Turkey, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Atambayev took part in the ceremony.

In his speech, Atambayev said that Chingiz Aitmatov was a prominent figure not only of the Kyrgyz people, but also of the entire Turkic world.

“Works of the great writer is our common cultural heritage. According to UNESCO, Chingiz Aitmatov is one of the most widely read authors of our time. He became a classic during his lifetime. His works have been translated into 176 languages ​​of the world, and published in over than 128 countries with circulation of more than 100 million copies”, – Atambayev said.

On behalf of the people of Kyrgyzstan, the President thanked the Turkish government and the leadership of the city of Ankara for assigning a name of Chingiz Aitmatov to the capital avenue and installation of the bust of the great writer.

“We all know that Aitmatov is one of the favourite authors of Turkish people who view him with great respect. There are various parks, streets and schools named after Aitmatov in the cities of Turkey. All works of Chingiz Aitmatov were translated into Turkish”, – Almazbek Atambayev said.
