Culture of Resistance in Dushanbe
On October 2-3, 2013 a new season of cultural and educational events has opened in famous Dushanbe Art Ground. The season was opened with the screening of two documentaries: Culture of Resistance and The Suffering Grasses by U.S. and Brazilian director Iara Lee.
Culture of Resistance tells about different people around the world fighting against violence and oppression with the help of art. The film also puts a question if art and culture can be an effective tool in the none-violent resistance
The Suffering Grasses, produced in 2012, tells about the armed conflict in Syria and about people (grass) that suffer from the conflict when “elephants fight”.

Iara Lee is a producer, film director and activist of Kerean and Brazilian origin. She works mainly at Near East and Africa. She is famous for the work on such films as Synthetic Pleasures, Modulations and Cultures of Resistance and for the involvement in the movement of the Palestine liberation. Iara is a creator of Cultures of Resistance Network Foundation and member of National Geographic Society and Greenpeace International.
