Fabian against Googosha
Unprecedented scandals have rocked the Uzbek society, and split it in half this week. Empire of Gulnara Karimova was attacked by an unknown forces, and Canadian singer Lara Fabian has refused to sing on her event.
As we already reported, an ambitious project ArtWeekStyle.Uz, organized by the eldest daughter of Uzbek President Gulnara Karimova, has started in Tashkent on Monday. Our blogger Alex Ulko analyzed in detail the pros and cons of this “quasi-glamorous” event in his review.
The event went wrong from the very beginning. Unknown forces (maybe, enemies of Gulnara Karimova from another clan) attacked her media empire. On Monday, her TV-channels «MarkazTV», «ForumTV» and «NTT» have stopped broadcasting, as early as Tuesday – radio channels «Terra», «Zamin» and «Allo». According to our source, who asked to remain anonymous, on Tuesday morning, all of the private media in Uzbekistan have received an unofficial messages from the authorities: “keep silence about the Style.uz.”

Apparently, opponents of Gulnara Karimova decided to deprive her of information support. At the same time, they attacked her business assets, now the organizations to which she relates, are subjects to review by the tax police, according to news reports.
The final “Canadian puck” in this absurd situation is the singer Lara Fabian. Her concert was planned as a closing event of the Style.Uz.
Typically, Googoosha invites world stars to take part at her ArtWeek. Sting was the first celebrity who made wrong step. After his concert at closing event of ArtWeek in Tashkent in 2010, “The Guardian” has released a scathing article, accusing him in friendship with “dictator’s daughter”. Sting had to apologize, and sent money, that he got from Gulnara, to charity.
Lara Fabian was one step ahead of Sting. Yesterday, she wrote on her own Facebook page that she refused to sing in Tashkent. Lara was surprised to see that human rights organizations have accused her that she would be “a showcase of the dictatorial regime,” and stated that in such circumstances she can’t sing. At this moment there are nearly 5,000 people who “liked” this post.
Of course, there is a question: why Fabian had not thought about it in advance? Surely, she knew where she was going, but made “step back” only after the hype has risen.
Gulnara Karimova responded to Lara’s statement with help of Twitter, accusing “internal force” in that.

However, the organizers of Style.uz were grieving not long, and today they announced that Lara Fabian will be replaced by… cheesy Russian pop-singer Valeriya, who apparently doesn’t care about where to play.
It is interesting that the Uzbek society is split over for two fractions. The question is how to treat the demarche of Lara Fabian. A liberal-minded intellectuals welcomes her step and writes support-posts in Facebook. An other citizens consider, that her decision is a shame. Among their arguments – Lara must sing for her fans in any case, and she must not listen foreign media or human rights organizations.
ArtWeek Style.uz will end tomorrow, but is unlikely that inter-clan war will subside. Lara Fabian was as “toy” in someone’s hands, and the question now is who will be the next “weapon.” Especially if Googoosha will strike back.
