The world’s oldest person was discovered during the census in Karaganda.  Her name is Sahan Dosova and she is 130!

[inspic=151,,fullscreen,450,:500] Mrs. Dosova celebrated her birthday on March 27th. “I don’t have any special secret” she says.

After the Azattyq website published this article [KAZ], the woman has become a global phenomenon.  Several international papers have written about her.The Sun gives us an historical sense of Dosova’s remarkable longevity:

“Sakhan was born on March 27, 1879 — when Queen Victoria had 22 years left to rule, Benjamin Disraeli was Prime Minister and Sherlock Holmes reator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published his first story.”

The Independent notes,

“Gertrude Baines (115), who lives in Los Angeles, was thought to be he world’s oldest person until Dosova tottered out of the woodwork.”

I think there are actually many Kazakhs who live very long.  Consider these common Kazakh titles: Toqsanbay (90), Seksenbay (80) or Zhetpisbay (70), all of which indicate how old the people were, when they became parents!

Kazakhstan began running its own censuses only a decade ago. Had we been keeping records earlier, I’m certain we Sahan’s peers would have been discovered.
