When it rains in Almaty, sun shines in Charyn Canyon, there is often cloudless there. Last Saturday I spent in Charyn Canyon, made some photos.

On the way to Charyn Canyon in 90km from Almaty tourist bus stops usually near Lavar village and by the unknown memorial.

I was there four years ago, without tourist guide and for free :) This time I went normally, according to ‘law’, with tickets.

If someone wants to go there, price for one ticket is KZT 2500. This is a normal price. I bought tickets in one agency dialing 8-705-133-65-34 (*this is not a commercial*).

From Almaty to Charyn Canyon is about 200 km, bus leaves at 8 a.m. from crossing of Abai street and Baitursynov street, trip takes about 3-4 hours one way.

On the way to canyon our tourist guide told us stories about Almaty, heros, place we were passing by.

In 3,5 hours we finally saw canyon against a background of Tyan-Shan mountains…

As our tourist guide has said, canyon replaced a lake. In the U.S. Grand Canyon replaced an ocean.

When I were here four years ago, there were no banisters at hauling down. Now it is much more comfortable to descent.

After the descending were were at the tourist path.

A tour or excursion is called “Castles’ valley”, most probably because all these rocks remind castles.

Going through the “tunnel” you can make a wish. I usually don’t :)

I have found an interesting figure on the way. It seems to me a head of a lizard that became a stone long time ago.

At the end of our hike in Charyn Canyon we arrived at a beautiful Charyn river.

I also found few “ancient” rock paintings.

This smiley was also found there :))

For those who has never been there: take head-dress with you, there is a strong wind there. Some also say summer is not a good time for Charyn Canyon, because it is unbelievably hot there.

Few more photos:

I am very glad that we have such a rich nature. By now this place is not really dirty, however there is a garbage left in spite of litter-bins standing everywhere.

I wish you a pleasant rest! In Kazakhstan it is also possible to rest, and not too expensive :)
