Monument to Chingiz Aitmatov was erected in Moscow
Grand ceremony of opening the monument to the Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov was held on October 24 in the atrium of the Library of Foreign Literature named after M.Rudomino in Moscow.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a series of events in Russia dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the birth of the great Kyrgyz writer. The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic Sultan Rayev, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Grigoriy Ivliev, Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Russian Federation Bolot Dzhunusov, the writer’s sister Rose Aitmatova, as well as the prominent political and public figures, art and culture figures, the members of the Kyrgyz Diaspora.
“Chingiz Aitmatov is a writer who has brought up generations. We studied Aitmatov’s works at school without the insistence of a teacher. We were reading his books as our own life, as life of our parents. We believed in the values that Aitmatov illustrated,” – Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Grigoriy Ivliev said at the event.
Photo exhibition called World sound of Chingiz Aitmatov was opened within the event. The translations of the writer’s works into different languages of the world were also presented.
Starting from that day, the retrospective of feature films based on the best works of the Kyrgyz writer opens in “Inostranka”. Libraries in Moscow will hold their literary evenings, readers’ conferences and meetings. Also the program Big Reading dedicated to the works of Chingiz Aitmatov will be organized throughout Russia.
