Sightless Kyrgyz singer won the Grand Prix of the International Contest of Romance

Bakyt Jakypov, a young singer from Kyrgyzstan, who is absolutely sightless, but very talented, won the Grand Prix of the International Contest of Romance in Kazakhstan.
A the beginning of October, the XVI International Contest of Romance Kazakh Romansiada-2013 took place in Shymkent city in Kazakhstan. Musical event was attended by more than 50 opera singers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. For the years of the Contest running, Kazakh Romansiada has become so prestigious event that all the beginning singers desire to participate in it.
The main winner of Kazakh Romansiada-2013 was a student of the Kyrgyz National Conservatory, Bakyt Jakypov. He performed the romance of Tchaikovsky “Amid the noise of the ball” and the romance of Svetlanov “Light of your love”. The jury, which included this year the People’s artist of Russia, Aristarchus Livanov, gave unanimously the Grand Prix of the International Contest to the talented Kyrgyz singer. This is the first Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan in the history of Kazakh Romansiada. The fact that Bakyt Jakypov is sightless had no effect on his performance, because he was singing with soul and his execution touched the souls of listeners.
International Contest of Romance Kazakh Romansiada was born in 1997 in Shymkent by the initiative of George Kiryukhin. First competition took place in the status of the city, then it became regional, and since 2003 it is called the International Contest of Romance. For 14 years this prestigious vocal competition was attended by about 900 artists from all regions of Kazakhstan and nine countries: Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, China, South Korea, Mongolia, Belarus and Ukraine. Today this is a large-scale International Contest that already for six years is included in the program of All-Russian Romansiada.
