Waste of Barkovskiy’s brain
Tashkent is hosting the exhibition of one of the most interesting media artists of Uzbekistan, working with photography, collage, lithography and video art. Few works of Alexander Barkovskiy will take part at “Sotheby’s” auction this year
All works, that was shown at “Art and Fact” gallery in Tashkent, united under the general concept of “Waste of the brain.”
Alexander works in different genres – such as collage, lithography, photography, video art, even directing a documentary films. At this exhibition he decided to present works from different periods of his life. Characters and themes of his paintings and photographs – cityscapes, crazy people, gypsies, neo-social-realism, and more.
As for the techniques, what I’m doing for this moment, are basically, video art, photography and collage. I am very interested in technology of photography and I am trying to develop it. At first i made photographs of objects, then made collages using Photoshop software then printed it using the printer or manual printing technique of lithography. Then the obtained prints are processed in monotype technique: scratches, glue, water, different colors (watercolor, gouache, acrylic). Combination of photos with subsequent manual processing is my style, I wonder – said Alexander Barkovsky
Alexander Barkovsky has not presented at this exhibition works from his most famous “Gypsy Madonnas” series, explaining that the theme of the series is different from the idea of the exhibition “Waste of the brain.” However, several works of “Gypsy Madonna” were selected by Sotheby’s curators to auction “Contemporary Art of the Caucasus and Central Asia”, which will be held from 4 to 12 March in London. This is a great success for the artist from Uzbekistan, especially at this level of his young career.
