Kazakhstan, Media and Internet

Thanks to Danil for posting this on LiveJournal (RU) (ENG).  And there is this story (RU),(ENG) from zakon.kz.  It’s a good guidepost to stamp Fall 2009 in the technological development of Kazakhstan.  I think it’s a good look at a couple of things, first of which is the response to the story, second is the potential for growth, and the importance of the reasoning behind the increase in government spending. From my own experience in Kazakhstan [several years in the school system] I can say that a lot of money is going towards technology education.  Interactive Whiteboards [hardware-software combination projectors that allow video conferencing, inkless writing and teaching, etc] are the rage in many luck villages.  In Shymkent Oblast in South Kazakhstan, I saw one village gymnasium with 4 such whiteboards.  This is not an article on the separation of rich and poor, or I would jump off in a diatribe about all the school children that could be given better books with that money, etc.

The articles above, of course, are more on University level teaching, and the article and its response are a nutshell of the dialogue between the two sides of the issue.  In other words, whether nano-technology, computer classes, and high speed broadband internet are just around the corner for Kazakhstan.
