The Central Asian Summer Program for Journalists

We are pleased to announce the competition to enter The Central Asian Summer Program for Journalists, held from 17 May to 6 August 2010 in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). The 12-week certificate program is sponsored by Deutsche Welle Akademie, the OSCE Academy in Bishkek (supported by the Government of Finland) and Media4Democracy (Geneva).
The program’s aims are as follows:
- to develop skills in creating high caliber analytic work focused on Central Asia, using print, radio and internet-based media;
- to create a network of journalists in Central Asia, using it to exchange information and, potentially, news broadcasts;
- to help journalists improve the quality of their work in Central Asian media.
The working language will be Russian.
Requirements:
- Participants must be professional journalists working for printed media, radio or online publications.
- Participants must have at least two years of work experience, preferably in two or more different media, which they will focus on during their study.
- Other requirements: basic computer skills and fluent Russian.
To take part in the program, candidates must submit an application containing the following:
1. Resume.
2. Short letter explaining why the candidate wants to take part in the program.
3. Three broadcasts (transcripts) or articles by the candidate created between 2008 and 2009.
4. A letter from the media organization where the candidate is currently employed, confirming that the candidate will be released from work for the entire duration of the program.
5. Candidates must provide some guarantee that they will continue working for their respective media organizations for at least one year upon completion of the program.
Selected candidates will receive a 350 euro stipend for accommodation and expenses. Journalists who successfully complete the program will have access to internship opportunities in Russia and Germany.
