Bishkek uses water as a fuel

For several days two of southern micro-districts of Bishkek city were cut off from gas. Some may ask “so what?”, as such gas and electricity blackouts happen often in Kyrgyzstan. But I would not have written a post about it, if it was an ordinary gas blackout.

The thing that makes this very blackout unique is that gas pipes in apartment buildings of 7th and 8th micro-districts of Bishkek are pumping not gas, but running water! Just have a look at the video made by one of those unlucky people living in southern part of Bishkek.

People say the accident happened because of the mistake of municipal services in charge of fixing pipes - they mixed the pipes and connected the water pipe to the one with gas. However, mayor’s office press service stated there were violations of norms and standards when laying gas and water pipes in 8th micro-district, as a result of which two pipes sticked and broke, and running water started flowing to gas pipe. Residents of micro-districts are not satisfied with this answer and think that the reason was the incompetence of municipal services, who could not do their job.

My friend, who lives in 8th micro-disctrict, told me how suprised he was, when he came home after work and wanted to cook a dinner on a gas fryer.

It is insane! Have you ever seen a gas fryer that is fueled with runnig water? I first thought it was a miracle, but then, making sure that it is a running water, I was really suprised. I have never seen a gas fryer that fountains water when you turn it on.

Mayor’s office press service informs that municipal services are working on the problem and gas supply in southern micro-districts will be resumed in near future.
