[inspic=2,left,fullscreen,150]Known for four waterfront regeneration projects on four continents, architect Eric Kuhne was the obvious choice to design a huge new development at Lake Borovoye in northern Kazakhstan. Of course making a Borat pun out of this, The UK Independent reported on this some days ago:

But instead of forest-cloaked mountains, the Kazakh retreat will be surrounded by a racetrack, five luxury casinos, 45 holes of golf course and up to 70 bars. As Borat would say, “Niiice!”

It will cost $1 billion, construction will begin this year, and - according to Mr Kuhne, the project is nation building since dignitaries who will convene on a secluded island will be impressed by the buzz onshore.

From the architect’s website (where you can find many more pictures of the plans):

Burabay Lakes Resort restores the legacy of Kazakhstan as the capital of central Asia as a meeting place between East and West. We will build one of the finest summer and winter retreats any where in the world. Here the mineral waters will be part of a wellness santuary. The high steppes will host grand equestrian estates for the great horse breeders of the world. We will create a centre of winter sports that will provide Olympic facilities for training, competition, and recreation. As part of a new gaming strategy for the entire Country, new world class casinos will bring adult entertainment to the region. All of these will be served by the finest hotels, restaurants, leisure, and spa amenities for guests, citizens and residents alike. Burabay Lakes will become an international symbol of hospitality and an icon of Kazakh spirit for the whole world to discover the beauty and heritage of this great land.
