Craig Murray, former British Ambassador to Tashkent, and Sir Simon Jenkins, of the guardian, were on Radio 4’s Today Show yesterday (Thursday) to discuss the publication of Sir Christopher Meyer’s memoirs (who, he? clue: former British Ambassador to Washington, DC). (BBC real player).
Although not strictly related to Uzbekistan, I still thought it worth posting here as Craig Murray makes some typically intriguing and thought-proving comments about the nature of international diplomacy, Britain’s in particular. (I believe I’ve transcribed the quotations correctly).
“I never gave advice on the basis that no-one would ever find out the advice I’d given and I think that’s not a recipe for good government”;
“We have a culture of secrecy that is far greater than anywhere else”;
“information on policy debate should be open”.
