091027-0017Two fountains which were build at the foothills of Suleiman mountain has become very popular place for Osh dwellers. Every day the fountains are attracting and gathering huge number of people.  Students, locals, tourists, and school children are enjoying the beautiful scenery of these fountains. The school children of nearby arts school named after Gapar Aitiev are drawing them.  In other words the fountains have become number one favorite place of city inhabitants.

Recently Aravanskiy wrote a post about the construction of these fountains. In his post he was reporting about the UNESCO’s concern for Suleiman Mountain.  Some UNESCO experts said the construction of such sightseeing places attract huge number of people which might pose danger to famous mountain of southern capital.  He mentioned recommendations of UNESCO to the Kyrgyz government about decreasing the amount of pilgrims who are visiting the Suleiman Mountains.

I want to draw the attention of public to another problem. Maybe it is not so big one as conserving heritage of country, but still, to my mind it deserves consideration.

091023-0006A few days ago I went to see the newly built fountains. As everybody I was happy for these nice fountains, I watched them for a while and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Later I realized the concern of UNESCO officials, the constructions threat the mountains. The crowd which will come to see the fountains certainly will want to climb to Suleiman Mountains.

Usually when a crowd of people climb to the mountains some of the citizens leave trash after themselves, there are others who go beyond such actions they break something or engrave their names on mountain. Only few people understand that the mountain is national heritage, which should be treated properly.

So the problem which I noticed is that the fountains are splashing out water and forming a big puddle which is flowing down the road. I became curious and asked the workers of fountains what was the reason of forming of the puddles. They did not give me any logical answer, quite reverse they began to tell me long stories of how the fountains were built, how they work and so on.

The people who are coming to the fountains are also not glad with these ponds. As one man explained to me that under the tiles there is sand. Evidently the sand will absorb the water, after a several times of absorbing the water tiles will lower or go out of order. Consequently the state will be spending money on repairing works.

091027-0032Two days ago as I passing by these fountains again, I saw the constructors who were doing the final arrangements in fountains. I used this chance for asking my questions. As Umarjon aka, the constructor of fountains explained the reason of forming ponds is the strong wind, which is blowing away the water springs to the side of fountains.

I went on my way, as if I found answer to my question, but yesterday I saw the fountains which the constructors were preparing for work. To my amazement these fountains, which are surrounded by big trees and not disturbed by any wind are also splashing out water which is forming puddles. I will leave the conclusion to the readers. I do not want to blame neither architect nor constructors who build the fountains. But the problem is staying unsolved.
