KGB is back in Kazakhstan?

translation of Adam’s post
Democratic community of Kazakhstan disseminated a statement in support of Mukhtar Jakishev. The open letter, signed by two dozens of journalists, rights advocates and opposition leaders, expressed concern that “Kazakhstan returns to vicious practice of the Soviet times”.
Nearly a month has passed since the arrest of Mukhtar Jakishev, a longtime head of the national company “KazAtomProm”, but there are still no sufficient information on his state of health and conditions of detention. National Security Committee - the successor of KGB - is denying relatives of Jakishev and lawyers to meet the detainee. It has recently become known that the special service wants the case to be tried in the military tribunal, which means that, most likely, it will be held in closed manner.
Besides, recently Jamilya Jakisheva, a wife of Mukhtar Jakishev, was denied exit to Kyrgyzstan (she is an ethnic Kyrgyz) in violation of the Constitution. According to the democrats, “this is a dangerous precedent, and if it is not precluded, soon hundreds of thousands of freethinking citizens may find themselves in the lists of persons whose exit is denied”. Indeed, restrictions that are applied to Jamilya Jakisheva have no legal ground and are viewed by many as the NSC’s desire to retain a leverage of pressure on her husband.
In conclusion, the signatories called on the authorities to move M. Jakishev under house arrest and ensure fair and unbiased investigation.
