Today Bishkek City council deputees have elected the mayor of Bishkek. The candidacy of acting mayor Daniar Usenov was approved by 36 votes. The other candidate vice-mayor Bolot Hudaibergenov received three votes. As local TV channel NTS reports, Bolot Hudaibergenov during his speech made a strange statement asking all the deputies to vote not for him, but for Daniar Usenov. Why would then he run for the post of mayor then? Well, our politicians keep surprising me..

Another thing that occurred during the election process was that Bishkek City council deputy Nurjamal Baibolova protested against the way the election was held. Apparently, the election process took part not in the lobby of the building, but in the office of the deputy Aibek Osmonaliev. Nurjamal Baibolova said that the Central Election Committee does not have a right to let the election process happen this way because it is not transparent and people cannot see what is actually going on. Furthermore, Bishkek City council chair was also elected today. Aibek Osmonaliev, the same guy in whose office the box with votes was placed, received 28 votes, informs AKIpress. By the way, Nurjamal Baibolova was elected city council chair in 2005 and this year the city council decided to replace her.
