swine-flu-h1n1Days were passing without any hysteria until the recent news. Discovering swine flu from two citizens of Kyrgyzstan made many people scare. This disease which is also famous with name H1N1, already has taken lives of many people in foreign countries. The first discovery of flu was made in 1918, but that time it wasn’t considered as a disease after 30 years it was  recognized, and at that time it killed a lot of people. The previous one, the bird flu also has taken many lives and it cost a lot for people who lost their beloved ones and family members. I guess many people  were not paying attention to this disease until it was registered in Kyrgyzstan. For personal protection many people began to wear masks.

In all public places of Osh, one may see people wearing masks. School children, students, adults even young kids are wearing masks. It seems majority of school children are wearing masks with some kind of interest and it has become number one requirement at schools. Every second school student of school #4, named after Kirova is wearing mask. However the higher educational establishments like Osh State University, Technological University or Kyrgyz-Uzbek Universities did not make any official meetings or warnings and are not demanding from students to wear masks. Nevertheless, professors of these universities are consulting students about the flu.

At one hand demanding from people to wear masks might create uncontrollable hysteria, which will make the situation more complicated. But on the other hand, if not prevented in time, the disease might infect many people within the short time. Especially students and school children are the most active members of society, who might infect their own surrounding. As I mentioned above, during lessons professors are consulting students about this disease and giving advices of how to prevent catching flu. My group mates and I were also consulted about the disease and were advised to take preventive actions. Our teacher Gulgena Abdullaevna advised us to buy a special ointment (rus. Оксолиновая мазь), and put on our noses.

So my group mates and I went to the nearby drugstore, and we were little bit amazed by seeing the queue there. Everybody in the queue wanted to buy mask or that special ointment. I asked question to my friends whether they heard about the recent news and learned that majority of them did not hear the news of registering the swine flu in Kyrgyzstan, so I told them about this news and advised them to take preventive actions. As our professor consulted us, there are very easy ways of taking preventive action in home conditions: one just has to take onion or garlic, cut it into sliced pieces and put in the living room. If the person has already caught flu they can smash onion or garlic, squeeze the liquid out of it and put into nose. It will stop flu at once. If one prefers to take medicine instead of it they can go to the nearby drugstore and buy medicine. Except the above given suggestions, it is also advised to eat well in time and wear warm closes. A lot of young people usually neglect advices of adults and wear light clothes even during winter season, usually they refuse to wear caps and catch flu at once. I would advise such young people to be more careful and listen to advices of adults.

So in conclusion I advise every body to take care of their health. It is important for you and your close people to be healthy. I hope that this disease will pass quickly and won’t take lives of people with it.

  • I am more than a little disappointed by this article. Thanks to Dr. Bakhrom for spreading fear of the Swine Flu to neweurasia and offering such helpful advice as putting onion juice in your nose and which topical ointments to use to stop its advance. And since when does not wearing a hat cause the flu?

    This piece is a farce.

I was hoping for some useful advise like whether to give children Tamiflu or if the vaccine will be available to the general public.

What a load of nonsense – if rubbing garlic and onions on your nose really stopped flu at once there would be no epidemic. And as for catching the flu from wearing light clothing and no hat – it might cause hyperthermia but as the flu is caused by a virus, you have to actually come in contact with the virus to get infected.

More sensible advise would be to wash your hands or use hand-wipes – especially after coughing or sneezing – to prevent the spread of the virus. Stop greeting people with kisses, don’t let children share their utensils or drink from the same cup and always sneeze into a tissue.

I sincerely hope that the advise given by Bakharom is not being endorsed by the medical proffession – no hope for Kyrgyzstan if it is!

One of my sisters got infected with H1N1 or more commonly known as Swine Flu. Fortunately, she did not have very high fever and she was able to recover fast. :-D
